Things That Remind Me I'm In New Zealand
Kiwi idioms, idiosyncrasies, and just plain differences
-
I shower in a metal-floored stall (anyone seen the "Darwin Awards"??)
-
I'm asked "Is that your one?"
-
Pies are about MEAT, not about fruit
-
I can't get drip coffee
-
The roads get "frosty", not "icy"
-
I have to turn the key away from the door-jam to unlock the door
-
I eat chips (not french fries) with tomato sauce, not ketchup
-
I eat crisps rather than chips
-
Crisps come in such flavors as roasted chicken and lamb with mint
-
When driving on the left side of the road and turning left, I have to yield to the driver turning right
-
"Milkshakes" are the consistency of water and have nothing to do with ice cream
-
Diesel is still cheaper than petrol (not "gasoline")

You're still in NZ? I heard that things are backed up down there, what's the story?
That's awesome that you're STILL in NZ. Congrats, C.
yeah, things are way backed up.... the first flight STILL hasn't made it out (they were scheduled to leave Tuesday 9/30), so at this point second flight (my flight) won't be out of here before Tuesday 10/7 at the earliest. we're taking over Chch....
