Things That Remind Me I'm In New Zealand
Kiwi idioms, idiosyncrasies, and just plain differences
- I shower in a metal-floored stall (anyone seen the "Darwin Awards"??)
- I'm asked "Is that your one?"
- Pies are about MEAT, not about fruit
- I can't get drip coffee
- The roads get "frosty", not "icy"
- I have to turn the key away from the door-jam to unlock the door
- I eat chips (not french fries) with tomato sauce, not ketchup
- I eat crisps rather than chips
- Crisps come in such flavors as roasted chicken and lamb with mint
- When driving on the left side of the road and turning left, I have to yield to the driver turning right
- "Milkshakes" are the consistency of water and have nothing to do with ice cream
- Diesel is still cheaper than petrol (not "gasoline")

yeah, things are way backed up.... the first flight STILL hasn't made it out (they were scheduled to leave Tuesday 9/30), so at this point second flight (my flight) won't be out of here before Tuesday 10/7 at the earliest. we're taking over Chch....
